Every year almost a billion Monarch butterflies fly down to Mexico’s Central Highlands from far off areas of Eastern Canada, a journey spanning more than 2500 miles!! The butterflies migrate to Mexico towards the end of October spending their winter hibernation period in the protected reserve of Reserva de la Marisposa Monarca located in the Valle de Bravo. These beautiful gifts of nature form a thick orange layer over the trees for months. For the Monarchs , February and March are the breeding months before they try and make their way back to Canada, though in reality many never make it back!
